In Italian, we say that pasta must be cooked “al dente“. Many believe it is an old proverb, but actually it is dictated by science.

If pasta is cooked “al dente“, it is composed of carbohydrates, which break-down easily and facilitate pre-digestion. However, cooked otherwise it is not.

The Simple Golden Rules for Cooking Pasta

STEP 1

Step 1 Add Salt and Boil Water

Bring water to boil and add salt to taste only once the water is boiling.

STEP 2

Step 2 Add Pasta to Boiling Water

Add pasta to salted boiling water.

STEP 3

Step 3 Cook for 10 Minutes Stir Occasionally

Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes.

STEP 4

Step 4 Drain Water Stir and Serve with Sauce

Drain well and serve with your favorite sauce.

A shorter cooking time results in a more al dente (firm, but tender) texture.
